I'm hoping to change from Evernote to Joplin. I work for a company whos IT department is very strict on what can be installed on my work computer. Is there a work around where I can at least access my notes via a web browser?
Welcome to the forum!
Joplin Portable works on Windows PCs and doesn't have to be installed. It leaves some traces on the harddisk though, as discussed in other threads here.
Sharing notes on the web is a feature peculiar to Joplin Server and Joplin Cloud.
Yes, the portable version is the only option unless you're using cloud services.
You can run it off of USB flash drive.
I just converted to Joplin cloud and I now have the ability to access via my web browser which is nice.
There are plugins that you can use to publish to GitHub. It's not exactly like reading all of your notes but you can publish some notes and then get to them online from anywhere using GitHub I can post the name of the plug-in later if you're interested but it doesn't get you your whole list of notes just the ones you publish.
It's also possible to run the mobile app in a web browser. See
Thanks but I don't really understand what this means? What has GitHub got to do with any of this ?
Since this is an open source project, the code and documentation are stored on Github, naturally, including the following link (which is probably what you were looking for): https://app.joplincloud.com/ However, without the short intro / readme that is available on Github, what the web app actually does could be a bit ambiguous, as your notes are still stored locally (i.e., offline).
Hi,
You cannot access your entire library of notes but with GitHub and a plug-in for joplin you have the ability to publish notes to the web that you can then access from any computer.
So, it is not exactly what you're looking for however it is as I have come from Evernote as well to be a useful feature to be able to publish information that I can get to from another place
Hi. I registered just to say and confirm that online access to notes is often mandatory for this type of application (notes). There are many situations where you cannot install an external application—for example, in corporations, etc. in some companies even access to USB port is restricted.
I saw on the forum that someone suggested using a cell phone – unfortunately, this is also inconvenient – I have a lot of notes that contain things I would like to easily copy/paste from my notes to my workstation (e.g., lines of code or instructions). And it's not just about accessing notes, but also being able to edit them directly in a given place. The cell phone screen is small, cluttered, and it's difficult to manage over 1,000 notes.
Someone else suggests that there are plugins to view notes via the web. This is also not a sensible solution to the problem. There is no guarantee that such third-party code is secure, well-written, or will continue to be developed at all. Such solutions should come from a source project - Joplin.
Instead of EverNote, Joplin was recommended to me as a self-hosted service, but without this feature, it's like driving a car without a fourth wheel.
Best regards, maybe this feature will be added someday.
Hi,
What are you synchronizing to?
I'm broke down and purchased the Joplin server sharing so I can access all of my notes from the web as well as individual notes.
