The UI when resizing panels (dragging resizing borders left and right)

Desktop Joplin: 3.5.13

Let’s say I have five columns of panels. From left to right:

  1. notebooks - narrow
  2. notes - narrow
  3. editor/viewer - wide
  4. the DDDot plugin - narrow
  5. the History panel - narrow

If I drag the border between 1 and 2, only two columns are resized: 1 and 5. That is not expected behavior IMHO.

The same holds true if I drag the border between 2 and 3: affected are column 2 and 5! Weird!

If I drag the border between 4 and 5, only columns 4 and 5 are affected. Makes sense.

But, if I drag the border between 3 and 4, columns 3 and 5! are resized. Boggle!

I never understood this.

I would expect the two panels that border the point at which you drag left and right would be what get resized. No one else.

The only exception would be if you hid (shrunk to 0 width) any panel. In that case you make it disappear and all panels stay the same, except for column 3, the editor/viewer, which would widen or contract, depending.

Any thoughts? Any agreement or disagreement on how odd this behavior is?

(Note, I tried to find this discussed somewhere, but apparently my search-foo is not exceptionally strong.)
