Plugin: Note Tabs

BTW: You can also pin tabs by double-clicking on it

You're right, it seems that the tabsUnpinNote command is not shown in the keyboard shortcuts editor. That's really strange. Maybe there's still issue in the App because I don't know what's the difference between this command and the other ones of the plugin.

For now you should be able to set the shortcuts directly in keymap-desktop.json as @uxamanda posted.

Would the planned command from Plugin: Note Tabs - #70 by benji300 be an option for you? With this you can open multiple selected notes directly as pinned tabs.

Great! I appreciate it.

Now I have thought about it and used it more, it is not even an inconvenience. :grinning:

I agree with you: its a philosophical discussion about expected behaviour, at best!

Having spent much of yesterday in Joplin using tabs, I now agree with @uxamanda. I like the ”pinned tabs + 1” arrangement, and I think it is better than having a tab keep opening and closing pointlessly.

If anyone asks, its definitely a feature not a bug!

I have even less options than that

Windows 10, Joplin 1.6.5 (prod, win32)

Yes ! And the trick mentionned by uxamanda can be also useful, I'll look into keymaps-desktop.json.

Are the install instructions on this plugin still accurate? I don't see "Tools -> Options -> Plugins" But If I go to Preferences, I see Plugins, but that does not show me an install option. It's just showing me a list of checkboxes about the markdown renderer... which seems... wrong.

@derikb it sounds like you're on an older version of Joplin. From v1.4 and above the instructions should be accurate

Oh wow, I must have missed the "update" alert for awhile. Thanks!

Update notifications are disabled by default, but you can enable them in the "Application" section in the configuration.

Ok, turned on the updated, updated (1.6.x). Installed the plugin, but I'm getting a weird layout problem. I don't have any css customizations setup. I'm not running any other plugins. (This is on a Mac fwiw.) Anyone have any ideas on this layout issue?

Looks like you just need to change the layout? You can do that from the View menu.

Thanks. I have not been keeping up with all the new options and features, clearly.

I was wondering about this, since I have somehow not gotten alerts of new versions in awhile either. Do I need "Automatically update the application" checked to get the alerts? If so, does that actually install the update or just alert me. I am looking for a setting that will tell me there is a new update, but let me choose whether to install right then or later (I like to make a backup before I update).

Yes that would just alert you, like before, and you choose if you want to install it or now. It's just that it's now unticked by default since some users don't like having the notifications.

Got it, thanks. I'd suggest changing the label to Check for updates automatically

I'd second this. I had it unticked only because I thought it would auto-update, which I don't want (like @uxamanda I want to backup and also check release notes prior to update). Definitely want to be alerted to new updates since @laurent and other devs are adding new features and bug fixes on a regular basis.

Edit: Oopse! I didn't finish reading the thread before I posted. I agree with @uxamanda that the wording is wrong.

This is what I see there:

Isn't there an option to be notified of updates? Or is it all or nothing?

Great plugin, thank you! Just installed it in 1.6.7 and am looking forward to use it daily

One suggestion: Currently, the tab shows "only" the name of the note. It would be great to be able to see the containing notebook(s) as well, without having to click on the note. Maybe with a tooltip popup that shows the hierarchy as "Notebook A / sub-notebook x"?
