Hello,
Just report from the point of view of someone considering switching from Evernote to Joplin.
First of all, biggest drawback of Joplin was not been able to open notes in a new window like in Evernote, as I very often edit a note whilst browsing other notes (old work-around was using external editor). That’s discussed here : Open Notes in new window
Having tabs instead would also allow to do that. To the point that either the open in new window feature or tabs should be part of default Joplin in my opinion.
Now, I really thought the plug-in didn’t work when I first tried it : tabs on left ? There must be a bug, can’t be an acceptable default ! Another buggy and unmaintained plug-in I thought... And as I’m not yet an advanced Joplin user, I wouldn’t have thought about View / Change Application Layout. In fact, the first time I tried the plug-in, I uninstalled it just after. I understood Joplin doesn’t allow « correct » defaults in its API, but I hope it’s something planned...
Then, comes the interesting part. It took me some time to understand the way Firefox or Chromium manages tabs. There shouldn’t be « pinned » notes, if I want to open 4 tabs with the same note, hey, why not ? All tab should be working independly, like not note is pinned and switch to another note if I click on another note. When I click on the corner of a tab, it should always close the tab, and go to previous tab, and not this strange « pinning » on active note. Not pinning the note. "Tabs : pin note" on left mouse button menu should be « open in new window ».
I will likely get used to it if/when I switch to Joplin. I also do understand that some people like it that way. I might even start liking them after some time. But as defaults...
