None of my notes appear after closing and reopening

What issue do you have?

tried to download latest update, wouldn't install. After closing and reopening Joplin, no notes appear. Tried to import bakup JEX file, still no notes appear!
Help!

Note: I'm assuming that you're using Joplin Desktop (not the portable version) on Windows 10 or 11.

Suggestion 1: Start by making a backup of the profile directory

Joplin stores notes and attachments in a subdirectory of C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\.config, its profile directory.

I suggest making a backup copy of this directory. To do this,

  1. Open file explorer.2.
  2. Navigate to C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\.config\joplin-desktop\.
  3. Copy everything to a safe location.

Suggestion 2: Download the portable version of Joplin, try importing from JEX

The portable version of Joplin stores its notes in a different location from the installable Joplin application. If there's a problem with the Joplin profile stored in C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\.config\joplin-desktop\, this should help avoid it.

Next,

  1. Completely quit Joplin (open Joplin, then click File > Quit).
  2. Start the portable application.
  3. Try to import the JEX backup
    • This should help determine whether there are issues with the JEX backup.
