No update notifications on Ubuntu

  • Joplin Version: 1.0.224
  • OS: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (Focal Fossa)

I’ve never received any update notifications on Ubuntu. Is there a way to troubleshoot it using the debugging console (e.g. calling the update notification method and see if it does something)?

I do get notifications from To-Dos though!

Notifications are switched on for Joplin and I’ve also enabled the “automatic” updates (which I understand is only the reminder atm) in Joplin.

PS I know there is Automatic updates not working on Linux, but I couldn’t get the needed information from there.

I think it’s just a bug that the notification never appears on linux (it might be disabled I’m not sure).

And here I thought I was imagining things (because I couldn't find an issue related to this)

I’m surprised there isn’t one, but then again I thought I had notifications disabled until your post prompted me to check, turns out they were enabled this entire time!

Was this ever fixed by the way?

I usually only ever update when the mobile client needs me to because there are backward-incompatible changes. Now I don't use Joplin on mobile any more, I guess it'll be even more infrequent because I just don't know when there are updates.

You can always get release notifications by email via GitHub...

It does include pre-releases but you can just ignore it. Of course you do still get to see the pre-release info, which indicates what changes will be present in the full release when it comes out.

There's a PR, but a discussion is going on whether that change could confuse Linux users.

Fair point, I just don't like getting any more email than I have to is all.
