I've noticed that there were some recommendations to remove the white launch screen (on Windows) back a few years, but it's still there in the app. Are there any plans to remove this? It's so bright every time I launch the app, and it flashes fast, to the point of causing an epileptic seizure.
If there's a work-around, please share. But this really needs to get fixed because when you use a large monitor 27"+, it's like flashing a bright light directly into your eyes. I honestly feel that it's strange that this is still in the app after all this time. Please remove or provide a work-around
Welcome u84six to the forum. May the light NOT be with you... LOL
The white launch screen is also under Linux...
There's a kind of workaround if you are not looking at your computer when it starts.
Use the autostart function (under Windows or Linux). It means you ask Windows or Linux to start Joplin while the OS is starting.
By the way : I use dark mode everywhere (Windows, Linux, Joplin...) and there's no change with the white launch screen of Joplin...
I agree I would be better to have a not white launch screen. Grey ? Dark ? An image ?
This is a side effect of the Electron application framework, I think. I use a few applications that also leverage Electron—Signal and Proton Mail, for example—and they all start up with that giant, and very annoying, white screen. I suspect there is probably some means to stop it. If so, I would love to see it go away as well.
I first saw this when I updated to v3.3 (Windows) so I've gone back to 3.1 where the screen starts up dark. I'll be staying on 3.1 until I know that white screen is never coming back.
After looking very closely I see even 3.1 starts with a white screen. The difference is that 3.1 is the blink of an eye while 3.3 is a half second or more of blinding white.
Cool work-around, but I'm not a big fan of startup apps, particularly with apps I don't use all day long. So it looks like I'll be dealing with the "white screen of blindness" until someone decides to fix it
Hmm, I use vscode which also uses Electron, and I've never seen a full white screen at launch. Also, I don't think Thunderbird uses Electron. I have it and don't get a white screen at launch.
I use Thunderbird as well but I do get the brief, 1/10 second, flash of white screen at startup. Same with Proton Mail but nothing like the "won't be able to see for the next 10 minutes" screen of Joplin.
