What issue do you have?

Hey there,

I accidentally deleted the Joplin app from my Android phone, but the sync data is still safely stored in my Dropbox, and I haven't changed anything there. I still remember my password and master key as well. Could you please guide me on how to recover all my notes and data back to how they were before? I want to make sure I restore everything correctly, including all the notebooks, tags, and any attachments.

Thanks!

Wouldn't you just reinstall the Android Joplin version, pointing it to your Dropbox, and let a sync go through?

This is the correct way. Do not try to manually modify outside of Joplin anything that is stored in Dropbox, as that can lead to data corruption.

It seems that the synchronization feature on the Android app is only for setting the storage path for backups, such as saving to a device directory, Dropbox, or other cloud storage. However, when data is deleted or if I want to access my notes from a different device, I have to access the backup data through a Joplin account via a browser.

There is no option in the Joplin Android app to log in and access the synced data from Dropbox or any other storage to restore all the backed-up notes directly. To do this, I need to use Joplin via the desktop app, which requires creating an account and subscribing to a paid plan :man_facepalming:

Why do you think so? If the data had previously been synced via Dropbox and is still there, then you also need to enable Dropbox synchronisation in the desktop Joplin app, and it should download all your notes from there. There is no need to create any additional, paid accounts.

The same is true for the mobile app. If it's a fresh installation, just enable Dropbox sync in the settings, then let it download the notes from there.

Synchronization in the Joplin Android app functions to align the backup data storage paths, such as Dropbox, device folders, or other cloud storage services. However, to access or recover notes that have been deleted or that you want to access from different devices, users indeed need to access their Joplin account through a browser or use the desktop version.

Additionally, to access data that has been synchronized to Dropbox or other storage services, a paid Joplin account is required, which is typically managed through the desktop application. In other words, the Joplin app on Android does not support full management of notes synchronized from cloud storage like Dropbox directly, and this limitation can indeed be a drawback for users who desire more flexibility in accessing their notes across various devices :smirk:

Joplin really knows how to make us nostalgic for the old days when synchronization required extra effort and patience.

But don't worry, Evernote is smiling in the corner, knowing its position remains unshaken!

There are a lot of incorrect statements here.

Synchronization in the Joplin Android app functions to align the backup data storage paths, such as Dropbox, device folders, or other cloud storage services.

No, it is for syncing your data only. Backups are performed by the the backup plugin, not by syncing your data.

However, to access or recover notes that have been deleted or that you want to access from different devices, users indeed need to access their Joplin account through a browser or use the desktop version.

Additionally, to access data that has been synchronized to Dropbox or other storage services, a paid Joplin account is required,

Joplin Cloud is the only "Joplin account" and the only sync target that payment is needed for. None of the other sync targets (Dropbox, WebDAV, NextCloud, S3, Local file system, Joplin Server, OneDrive etc.) would require a paid account and none of them would require a browser.

Joplin is, and always has been, offline first. If you lost your local copy of the data then you need to, as people have already suggested, add your sync target to download your data locally again to bring it in sync once more..

the Joplin app on Android does not support full management of notes synchronized from cloud storage like Dropbox directly

Yes it does? You sync your client to get the latest data then any changes you make are pushed back to the target just like any other client. Any changes in the target are routinely synced to your local copy whilst the app is open.

Evernote is smiling in the corner, knowing its position remains unshaken!

You mean dying in the corner haemorrhaging users?
