It is probably due to a plug-in you have installed.
As you did not include your Desktop version info (Help > About > Copy) it is not possible to suggest what one.
Try disabling any plug-in that adds a panel to the Joplin interface.

ok it was "Inline Tag Navigator" which added a 2nd block.
By deactivating it I didn't get anything
