Vertical/column selection and editing in Windows

I'm using Windows 10. Joplin 2.7.12

I am able to make a vertical selection in the markdown editor by holding down the alt key while selecting with the mouse.

However, once I have selected, I can't delete the selection as I would be able to with a typical horizontal selection. Am I missing something?
