What issue do you have?

As I use Joplin, more and more notes accumulate in the notes editor window. I can use the < > to page through them, but how do I remove notes from this window? I see where tabbed notes can be closed, but I can't find where to give notes tabs as I can't find a Settings feature.

I don't think the notes are all open, I'm guessing it's simply a history, and all that is kept are pointers to the previous notes. When you go back and forward it just reopens the note using the pointer as a reference link? This allows you to navigate back and forward between notes you recently read or edited, and is a useful feature—think: like navigating back and forward in a web browser...

Yes, it's a useful feature. But it gets in the way when I'm copying and pasting between two notes that aren't next to each other. I have to move through the other notes to go back and forth between the two that I'm working on. Or maybe I just want to only move among several notes that are related in subject matter. It would be nice to not have to page through notes not needed for the task at hand.

Convenient switching between two or more notes can be achieved by using plugins.

Joplin DDDot

This allows keeping a list of recently opened notes, and it also allows pinned shortcuts, so you can switch easily between two or more notes. This plugin comes with several other useful add-ons. You have a choice in settings to enable or disable each "helper", according to what you find useful.

Note Tabs Plugin, shows tabs and allows you to pin tabs of notes you want to work on, so they remain a click away

Thanks, Johano. The Note Tabs Plugin does what I was looking for.
