I have been happily syncing my Notes between Windows 11 PC, Mac and Android tablet for a few years now. Sometimes it was quite slow but it did work.
Earlier this week, I made many small changes to many notes on the Windows 11PC. For the most part, I deleted a 10-15 line portion of about 60 notes.
I expected that all those notes would be updated but knew it would take some time.
Today I noticed that all the new notes that I created on the Window11PC over the past 3 days have not synced to the Mac or Android Tablet.
The Windows11PC continues to show 1 note updated with the spinning arrows. I've stopped and restarted the app a number of times and let it run overnight.
The Android Tablet and Mac still don't have the new notes. And I've created some notes on the Android Tablet that haven't updated in the Windows11PC. So it looks like I have either 2 or 3 different libraries of notes with each having different changes. So I can't delete and repopulate from the Nextcloud server without losing data.
I'm not sure what steps to take to get the data consistently synced again. It seems that the Windows11PC just keeps on doing something but never finishing. I can't belief it is still trying to sync those 60 notes after 4-5 days.
What steps should I take to figure out where the hang-up is?
Today I made a couple of changes to my settings and updated them to all devices. I reduced the history to 5 days and reduced the number of threads to 5. (If anyone is curious, I never updated the history so it was whatever the default was (I think 90 days) and the threads was 10 on Android Tablet and Mac and 20 on Windows11PC.)
Two hours later, it has synced everything properly. I am relieved.
I would still appreciate any input on how to resolve the initial issue so I can learn from this.
On a separate note: I suggest that the history date selector be updated to a data entry field instead of a slider on Android. It is really a challenge selecting anything less than 30 since the amount to adjust on the screen is in microns and nearly impossible to get what you want. If you think it warrants an entry on Github, I'll happily post.
This is a known problem, present probably since the very beginning (see https://github.com/laurent22/joplin/issues?q=is%3Aissue+slider). In the current form, the slider is barely usable, especially on smaller screens. I have even tried using a hardware keyboard to manipulate the numbers with arrow keys, however the slider doesn't respond to key presses at all, unfortunately. I did have some luck with a mouse though. Definitely more than with finger tapping on the tiny space.
Thanks for showing me the link. I see that it has been disabled/cancelled due to inactivity. It's kind of silly that an issue in Github gets ended after 30 days of inactivity. The issue hasn't disappeared just because people aren't posting updates every couple of days.
I can re-add it again but that doesn't mean it won't time out again before someone can look at it?
