Feature Request: Multiple Windows

Is this v3.2.1 pre-release version for IOS only? If so, what do you need to make Joplin native multiple window feature work for Windows too?

It's desktop only, mobile is not supported at the moment

You mixed releases and platforms.
V3.2 is a pre release for desktop, not iOS.
V13.1 is the pre-release for iOS

where are the upgrade or install instructions to upgrade Joplin 3.1.24 to this 3.2.3 desktop prerelease for windows?

On desktop,

To have access to these pre-releases, simply go to Configuration > Application and tick the box "Get pre-releases when checking for updates".

Totally agree. Incredible work and such a great job - this is exactly what many of us ex-Evernote users have been hoping for and it works perfectly so far in my testing! Thanks so much.

The icing on the cake would be double click on a note to open in a new window - this I think would feel very intuitive and conforms with Windows conventions many of us are used to. If not that, then a keyboard shortcut to do it would be great! And/or it'd be more accessible just being somewhere on the right-click - ideally near the top - rather than in a sub-menu. But this is getting fussy of course

Thanks again.

Understand that Multiple Window for note is been implemented in v3.2.1 above,
like to suggest additional feature to enhance the capability

  • As Menu Item
Add Menu Bar Item => Note -> Open In Window.
This can then be assigned to shortcut key using Keyboard Maestro. Currently it is only implement as context menu

  • Goto Anything Search
If Cmd+Return, the item will open in window

Hi,
I just tested the new multi-window function, and it's great, thank you very much
I use the Outline plugin a lot, and I notice that it is not displayed on notes opened in windows other than the main one, is this normal?

Currently, only the editor panel is shown in secondary windows. The notebook/note lists and plugin panels are only shown in the main window.

Thanks so much for working on this. It will surely be helpful for many people.

Is it being considered to be able to drag and drop a tab to open it in a new window, like you can in FF and Chrome? I guess that would need to be implemented in the tab plugin?

great functionality. For me (v. 3.2.13 on windows), the newly opened window remains under the original window. If by sleight of hand I manage to move it to my 2nd screen, the original window is blank, though.

The edit window is like any window and will move wherever you drag it. Are you saying that, somehow, you have a note with things in it? Then you choose to edit in another window, and that note's contents disappear?

What happens, for the rest of us, is that the original window stays the same. We can, however, go to another note which has information we need, and examine or copy from that (perhaps a research note) into the new window on our second monitor. Those additions to the note in the other window on the 2nd monitor appear, magically, in the original note.

If this isn't what is happening, describe exactly what you do and get.

Thank you for adding multiple window support.

There is a button on each note's formatting bar where you can open the note in an external editor. Since I'd rather use multiple windows instead of an external editor, I wonder if the behavior of that button could be configurable (either in settings or a drop down on the button where you can change the behavior)? Or, Shift+Click could make it open a new window instead of opening the external editor?

Also, I'd like to have a keyboard shortcut to open a note in a new window. That doesn't seem possible at the moment.

Agree with this. Worth mentioning too that double clicking on a note now launches it in a new window, which is really nice and is intuitive.

Regarding shortcuts, it'd also be nice to see some standard ones for closing a newly launched note window. Eg escape - that'd be super fast. And/or and CTRL+W. I think ALT+F4 currently works but for me at least that's not as natural or as easy to get to. Or of course the option to user configure this would be even better.

Thanks as ever to the devs - really top work!

Cheers
Ben
