Hi, I have been reviewing note-taking apps and in particular those that are in the Evernote space — like Nimbus, UpNote, Bear etc.
I also use Obsidian as a main resource, with Capacities more recently.
Joplin is a capable competitor with all of these but the mobile app lacks one key function: word count.
Word count is provided by ALL the others I have mentioned. It is essential to writers – there is always a target length in mind. Longer articles may be built up from shorter notes, and it is necessary to know how those snippets add up.
I am aware that the desktop app has gained a word count — but I hunbly submit, that is even more reason to address the absence on the mobile app.
I hope the team can make this a priority.

A "word count" setting will be available in v1.3.0 of the "Extra Markdown editor settings" plugin.

Are there any plans to add word count to the mobile app? I checked out the plugin listed above but didn't see it available on mobile.
Currently, it's available on Android, web, and desktop, but not iOS. At present, iOS only supports installing plugins marked as "recommended" by the Joplin team.
Update: Extra Markdown Editor Settings should now be available on iOS.

It's working for me. Thanks!
I've added Extra Markdown editor to get word count, and don't see how to get the count. Where is it displayed?
After installing the plugin, the "Show word count" setting should be available in Configuration > Extra Editor Settings:
After enabling the setting, the word count should be shown at the bottom of the editor:
