What issue do you have?
Hi all, I have a bit of a head scratcher here. Been using Joplin for a while now (Loving it!) and have had success in the past syncing between Windows 10 and android using Sync-thing. On my dual boot system this is still working just fine so I know the config on my phone is good.
I have a new environment, Linux Mint and am looking to set it up there as well. So far so good, Joplin is running fine.
Instead of messing about with Syncthing I decided to try a direct connection via USB. And it works - sort of.
If I create a note in Joplin running on Mint, it gets synced to my phone.
If I create a note on my phone - it never syncs back to Mint.
I am trying to get my new Joplin config to mirror the phone, and it seems like I am 50% there - is there anything I can look at to determine why sync is only working one way? To me that says the config is good, I had to mess about with the mount point for the phone but I finally got it and since I can sync one way - I must be close, right?
Any info appreciated!
Hi,
Do you have open SSH server running on your Linux Mint machine? If you don't you can add that and then use a program from the Google Play app store called foldersync to synchronize over SFTP between your phone and your Linux machine. That might work better for you then trying USB.
You can do a one-way sink or a two-way sink which is what you'll probably want to do.
Actually, I just did a little bit more research and on Android the data is stored in a SQL database and not markdown files so I doubt there is a way to make it synchronize in both directions properly. What you can do is export the data to a .jex file and then import on the other device and vice versa but I don't know if you could possibly run into the conflicts there as well.
The best method unfortunately is what you don't want which is to use the cloud service of some sort to synchronize the data.

Need details of the config you are using to do this sync and how you are pulling it off. In particular the Sync Target from Joplin's settings.

Thanks for all the input and advice everyone, much appreciated!
After banging my head for some time on this and getting nowhere I decided to give in and just use Dropbox. Holy Guacamole, I can not believe how simple it is!
Syncthing and Filesystem has its place and maybe I will revisit it at some point but I see no reason to make my life more difficult than it needs to be.
