What issue do you have?

I may be overly cautious, but I wanted to ask here rather than risk data loss.

Back in August I stopped using my old laptop completely. I moved my Joplin profile to my new laptop. I don't think I had to do anything other than move the profile to get everything working right.

So at any given time I have only had one desktop version running and syncing with one Android version over dropbox.

Now I have to (at some unknown point) send in my new laptop for repair.

Can I just start using Joplin on the old laptop after giving it some time to sync? I'm assuming that I ought to bring that old version up to date (it is 2.10.18… I turned off wifi before opening it up to check since I didn't want to risk it starting to sync)

That should work fine, but indeed it's best to upgrade to the latest version (or same version as you have on Android) to make sure that the database structure is the same.

Whatever you do, make a backup first, just in case

Thank you Laurent and roman_r_m!

I will upgrade offline before I try to sync. And I will have a backup. I just thought it would be better to ask first rather than have to come back with a bigger problem.

I'm so happy to be a Joplin user.
