Joplin Sync version: 3 version: 2.9.17 (most current version for mac)
Mac Ventura 13.2.1 (Silicon M2 Macbook Air)
Hi there, I am having problems linking notes on my Mac. On my Android device (Galaxy A52), I can link notes adequately by copying the markdown link (i.e., I click on 3 dots on the top right and select copy markdown link) and pasting it into another note, however, I cannot anything similar on my Mac. There is no option to get a markdown link and even though I installed the bi-directional linking plugin there is no option I can find to use this feature on my Mac. I have read a past forum and tried to insert [[ and a note name (like Obsidian) but this does not work. I have also tried to type ||| as suggested but this also does nothing.
The standard way to get a Markdown link in the desktop version is to right-click the note title in the note list and then select "Copy Markdown link". Admittedly I use Linux / Windows and not Mac, but I expect it behaves the same (is it control-click on a Mac for a context menu?)
Thank you, but with a right click or control > right click I only get:
Share note
Export
Toggle own sort order
Copy external link
Add notebook to favorites
Copy notebook I'd
If that first entry is actually "Share notebook ..." it would appear that you are right-clicking on a notebook title in the sidebar / list of notebooks rather than a note title in the note list.
Thank you again for helping me out here. I managed to copy the markdown link on a note list on my Mac, but it is not clickable. I then did the same thing on my Android (A52 Galaxy) phone, and it did create a clickable link.
I have illustrated this clearly with three screenshots on a test note, but I cannot attach these to this reply and I cannot attach a link. Happy to share these screenshots if there is a way?
This is what the Mac created markdown link looks like (added quotation marks):
[Testnote1](:/and a bunch of numbers and letter)
This is not clickable.
The Android-created markdown link is simply
Testnote1 (a hyperlink with a blue J for Joplin in front)
This is a clickable link.
This looks the same on my Mac and Android (i.e., the first one is not clickable - the one created on my Mac, and the second one created on my Android device is clickable).
I have dropped these screenshots in my cloud drive because I could not attach them directly to this note.
Funny when I inserted the Mac markdown link it came out as Testnote1 - a hyperlink but in Joplin it shows up as [Testnote1](:/and a bunch of letters and number) and it is not clickable.
What editor are you using? The markdown link is correct and should be clickable in the rendered html.
In the richtext editor you would need to hold ctrl/cmd to click and follow a link otherwise it would make editing difficult (as is the case in most word processors).
You make a great point, but how do I tell or adjust what editor I am using in Joplin on my desktop Mac. In this example, I simply typed a test note. I tried holding ctrl/cmd and clicking but it is still not a hyperlink I can click on?
Yes, I was in the Markdown Viewer, but the markdown link I pasted with my Mac is still not a clickable link. The other markdown link pasted on my Android device works fine (as mentioned). The command-right click on the Mac markdown does not work.
Example below. If you are in Markdown editing with two panes open, pasting the markdown link into the left window will show a clickable link in the right (render) window.
Very sorry for the tardy reply. YES! This has solved the problem completely on my Mac. Once I created two panes and copied from the right pane to the left, the clickable Joplin link showed up in the right pane exactly as you illustrated.
Thank you very much! It was getting to be a frustrating problem, but it is now fully resolved.
