Is there a way to pin a note to the first position of a notebook? Sometimes, I have an intro or summary note that might have a name that won't automatically sort alphanumerically to the top of the list. I prefer notes to be sorted alphanumerically otherwise, but right now I'm putting a number in front of the note title: for example, "1. Overview". I don't want to manually sort every notebook though.
Switch it to a todo note if you aren't already using that note type.
I don't understand how switching the note to a TO DO type note will affect the order.
To-do notes that are not checked are moved to the top of the list of notes. As soon as they are checked they move back into the regular sort order.
I guess that works. It's a little better than manual sort. I'll see how it works for me. thanks
There is better
Look at this plugin:
It will add a list of favorites. YOU can decide what to favorite (notes, notebook, search).
Once you have faborites, you can click and drag them in the favorite list to have the one you want at the top.
There is an alternative with another super powerful plugin:
with this one, you can write a note with content like:
```search
tag:summary
sort:desc
`` ` # added a space to avoid breaking the code block in the forum but don't do that
The note will generate a list of links based on the result of the search, in my explample: all the notes tagged summary, sorted descending.
I take a simple approach to pinning a note at the top of an alphanumerically-sorted folder. I prepend "00 " to the title of the pinned note, then leave the titles of all the other titles alone.
I've been doing this, but I end up trying to number all of the notes for some kind of numeric organization. My brain is weird.
I'll give the favorites list a try. It's not really what I was thinking about, but maybe this will work. I really want the notes list in a notebook to have one note stuck to the first position then let all the rest be alphabetical. This plugin puts them in another list, which is okay, but the notebooks don't have the overview/intro at the top of the list. I think I need to play with this one for a while.
The search-embed is also interesting. I can see that used for a XREF of key notes by different tags. I like that one.
Thanks!
An alternative to prefixing the note title with a number is to use a Unicode character. For example: Dotted Circle (U+25CC)
This will appear at the top of the list, when sorted alphabetically ascending.
Notes:
β Zebra
Antelope
Bison
Cougar
etc
This prefix can also be used for Notebooks you want at the top
Notebooks:
β Inbox
β July
β Temp
Applications
April
Bolivia
Canada
etc
That's an interesting idea, and it doesn't trigger my number vs. alpha issue! Thanks!
Love these easy why-I-didn't-think-of-that-by myself-solutions
I just use a dash (or 2 or 3). It puts the notes at the top of even the dotted circle trick although the dotted circle does look neater.
I just added and it feels like the note is 'pinned'.
