Performance of very large notes

Joplin Version: 2.8.8 (prod, win32)
OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2
32GB RAM
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600X
M.2 1TB SSD

Clipping a very large note. Tried both Simplified and Complete HTML. I can take 30 seconds or more to render the note.

Can you share the specific problematic note? You could export it as JEX and then upload here. Otherwise, you could try to disable plugins (if you use any) and see whether there is any difference then.

Here's the problematic note.

Yeah, I can confirm that this one does take a lot of time to render. Probably too large for Joplin to handle, at least for now. It may be useful to do some profiling (e.g. as in https://github.com/laurent22/joplin/issues/6736#issuecomment-1267956481) to find out which part is the culprit exactly. It could be just the size alone though.

If you strip out the table of contents and replace it with [[TOC]] as well as remove all the HTML in there (like <a id="cb132-1"></a>[](#cb132-1) and variants, including the citations), it does load a bit quicker. It also reduces the file size by a third to 1MB.
