OneDrive login and Microsoft exposure

Joplin 2.5.12 (prod, win32)
Revision: 884b86f
Windows 11

I am trying to detach myself from Microsoft and my first step is eliminating OneNote. I am curious, if I use OneDrive to sync Joplin will using my Microsoft login credentials login my laptop and Android to my Microsoft account? I do not have any instance of being logged into my Microsoft account any longer now that I only login locally to Windows and uninstalled OneDrive.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

To put your question into perspective, if you setup Joplin sync target as OneDrive, it must use some credentials to access the cloud storage. It can use credentials created (by you) specifically for storing notes and nothing else, i.e. the account wouldn't have the connection to ms office, your primary Microsoft account etc

But at the same time if you want to divorce Microsoft, it would be quite logical to setup account on some other cloud, say Dropbox or Nextcloud. The latter can be even self hosted, i.e. may not require any account outside your local network.

(Shameless plug: or if you feeling generous, you may consider getting an account at Joplin Cloud, it opens up collaboration features and a performance boost of sync)

Thank you, I may just have to sign up for a cloud account.
