New Android installation: Notebooks don't appear (using Joplin Server)

What issue do you have?

I have a new Android telephone and I am having trouble with the initial sync. The button for 'Check Synchronisation Configuration' says 'Success! Synchronisation configuration appears to be correct.', however my notebooks do not appear. Syncing does not make them appear either. I created a new notebook on the Android device and added some notes and they did appear in my other devices, so writing seems to work.

What is going on?

A contributing factor might be that I currently have certificate problems (alternative names field should have contained the hostname of my joplin server docker image however I am waiting for a software update to get that corrected). I have activated the setting to ignore TLS errors, but I still see some errors where the syncing info appears. That might be related?...
