Jump to specific Notebook(s)

Operating system

Windows

Joplin version

3.5.13

What issue do you have?

I have 100s of notebooks and sub notebooks - 90% of which are really mostly static reference material - the remaining 10% scattered amongst all the notebooks are used frequently - and I am constantly scrolling up and down to go to whatever notebook I need at the time - for example my purchases and sales notebook.

What I would like to able to do is have a small list (in a note, within a notebook of it's own) of the most frequently used notebooks at the top of my notebook list on the left - where I press a button and Joplin responds by physically taking me to that particular notebook - ready for me to start editing/adding/amending etc.

Is there a way to achieve this - what would be - a very useful workflow improvement?

I think what you want already exists. First create your new notebook, give it a name like _index, the underscore will place it at the top of you sort by name.

Right-click the note you want quick access to, I think it's called “copy as markdown link”, now go to your _index notebook, create a new note and paste in the markdown link.

Now just do this for all notes you want quick access to and you have your index page.

Thanks for info. It’s almost there and will certainly help. The only thing missing - I also wanted Joplin to physically ‘jump’ and move to the notebook which it doesn’t do BUT it does highlight the notebook so it easy to scroll down quickly to the highlighted area. I quite happy with this and it will make getting around quicker and easier - great stuff!

Thank you for the information.

AND - having been playing with it and setting things up today, it doesn’t ‘jump’ to the notebook BUT it’s does present all the notes in that notebook on the right handside if your note list is toggled on - so even better!

I would suggest you try and use your Go to Anything keyboard shotcut. use @ to start searching for a notebook (# for tags)… to search for the relevant notebook. that jumps to the notebook

This would be a workaround but I think effectively achieve what you want. Can you just take those 5 scattered notebooks and put a “_” in front of the name? Then your top 5 notebooks are always at the top. And it’s easy to move in/out of that pole position by editing the names again.

First, very valid question.

Second, I just tried Cmd+Shift+S (Ctrl+Shift on Windows) and typing the name of notebook. The first letter registers and jumps to the first result. Rest seems to be ignored. Repeating the first letter will sequentially move to the next notebook or tag, whichever is first.

This is a good start, but not a solution, I know. Maybe it helps you for now.

I use tags to group notes together that belong together and are important. Notes that I have published are called published. Notes that are important have a tag called important.

Then you just choose to view the tag that you want to use rather than the folder.

All good ideas above. I use the Favorites plugin that adds a panel I can pin notes/notebooks to. Here is the link: Joplin Plugins - Favorites . It works great for my purposes in Linux, but not compatible with Android version.
