hello got the .zip file via Nextcloud its in my Downloads . I have created a new profile in Joplin . What is the way to read the encrypted file please ( because its all gobledygook ) !
yes read it now & before thanks worth reading but point me to where it tells you how to open Joplin.zip ( this is where my missing files are / or should be - the .jex were not always done ).Seems to be a problem in my Default Profile i cannot solve :

If i try to open / import the Joplin.zip is it treated as :
MD-Markdown (file) ?
or
MD-Markdown Directory ?
or
MD-Markdown + front matter (file) ?
or
MD-Markdown + front matter (Directory) ?
or are Joplin.zip treated differently ( i have not found how )?
have tried all ways but only can get encrypted .md files that i cannot read ( but can see some are the missing files) .
Have set up Profile 1 ; it does not have the problems of the original Default as above , but cannot read the files ?
What exactly is this Joplin.zip? If it is from the sync target then it isn't valid data for restoration in the app, you would have to load it to your nexcloud and sync your clients to it.
i read to copy files on Nextcloud somewhere safe ( whilst i am trying to sort all this out ) so i have ! I am trying to get my readable unencrypted files back ...
If they are the encrypted files from your sync target then you should only have to sync a new client with them and enter your master key, you can't import them directly into a Joplin desktop app. If your nextcloud is still there then you should only need to sync, otherwise you need to put those files into your nextcloud directly then sync.
Daeraxa please could you explain what you mean in laymens terms please ?
I copied back the.zip to Nextcloud but can see no difference in Joplin ; i got some data via .jex etc ... i can see all the data in my Home files various places but i have not got any images or .jpg back (these s/be with the recipes & foraging files !) If i look in .config joplin-desktop i see 2 profiles - 1 has empty "resources" the other 1698 items showing .crypted / Text & .jpg / Image ; does any of this help ?
The problem is I don't actually know what this Joplin.zip is, I'm only assuming it is the contents of your sync target.
If so then you just need to extract it to your nextcloud like it was before, set up the sync target in Joplin to that directory then press sync and follow the instructions.
