I've installed Joplin on a Windows 11 Desktop, intel i7, and a Windows 11 Asus notebook, AMD Ryzen 7. Data is stored in a dropbox account. Both computers are up to date with all software.
The desktop works fine. The notebook installation crashes constantly, however. Almost anything I try to do, move a note, clip a website, will bring it to a halt, triggering the Windows "This program is not responding, quit/wait" dialog.
I've uninstalled Joplin and reinstalled, but with no change in results.
I'm at a loss figuring out what the difference between the two machines might be. Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.
On the ASUS notebook, go to settings > plugins and disable the backup plugin.
Each plugin runs in a new process, which has some overhead.
Disable OCR (if it's enabled) (settings > general > "Enable optical character recognition (OCR)").
Enable safe mode (Help > Toggle safe mode).
Safe mode disables some Joplin features (including plugins) that could be causing the issue.
A large number of notebooks and/or tags (several hundred or more) can also make Joplin slow. If this is the issue it may be improved in the Joplin 3.0.6 pre-release. If this is the case however, I would expect Joplin to be slow on both computers.
For my part, even with version 3.0.6 (which resolved major slowness issues), the automatic Backup continued to generate freezes of the "Not responding" interface. I left the Backup plugin activated but I deactivated the automatic backup by indicating "0" in the "Backup interval in hours" setting, since then I have no more problems. I just do a manual backup now and then, when I'm not using Joplin.
I upgraded Joplin to the pre-release and disabled the backup. The OCR was already disabled.
Now everything is working well. Joplin's responsive, only crashed once, and seems stable.
Thanks for your help! Much appreciated.
