Joplin opens with blank window

Operating system

Windows

Joplin version

3.2.12

What issue do you have?

After upgrading to 3.2.12, I now can't get Joplin to run. It opens, but it is only an outline of the app, with no content (screenshot attached). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, but the result is always the same. What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks.

can you press button "Cancel" on the bottom left?

Also, try deleting few recently installed plugins from USER_HOME/.config/joplin-desktop/plugins. It seems like they might causing some trouble

No, it isn't active. If I just wait, I eventually get a popup window that reads, "An error occurred: Window unresponsive." I've attached a screenshot.

I'm still having the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

As for plugins, I haven't installed a new plugin in more 6 months, so it's unlikely that one of them is suddenly a problem. But I will look at what's there... maybe I can remove the most recent ones and see if it helps.

Any assistance is appreciated because at present I can't use the app at all.

Here are two things to try (if you haven't already):

  • Try restarting in safe mode: Does clicking "restart in safe mode" in the "window unresponsive" dialog help? This temporarily disables all plugins. If an installed plugin is incompatible with the latest version of Joplin, this may allow Joplin to start.
  • Try disabling custom CSS: Does a userchrome.css file exist in C:\Users\YourUserName\.config\joplin-desktop\? If so, disabling the custom CSS might help.

Okay, I stand corrected. I deleted the most recently installed plugin (installed in August), and now Joplin is working.

It must have indeed been an incompatibility, probably created by the latest Joplin update.

Thanks very much for the suggestion.

I've run into similar problems a couple times.

Once was on Joplin mobile with the experimental biometric login (I actually just posted a response in thread on that subjects).

The other time was when trying to use the extended editor plugin. It wasn't working properly so I tried changing the editor to use the old one thinking it could be an issue there. That solution half worked but then completely borked things when I tried changing a setting. Turns out I had an older version of the Plug-in installed (there are 2 listings for it on the plugin page with slightly different names but the newer one didn't have much of a description nor mention one of the features I wanted).
