Joplin Crashes when file/Print option selected

When I open a note and try to print it the app crashes. Don't have time to select a printer or the print to file option. Anyone else experiencing this?

I am running Joplin on Linux Mint 20.3 (Cinnamon)

For now, I suggest exporting to a PDF, then printing the PDF (Go > Goto anything > type "pdf").

On my system, I get

(but I'm not sure the relevant user has access to the printing service).

Are there any errors in the log? (The log file is present in the profile directory: help > open profile directory.)

I was getting a quick display of the print selection window showing the printer and a print to file option - right before it crashed. I turned my printer off and now I get the same error "failed to enumerate printers". Definitely a bug of some sort. Nothing stuck out in the errorlog

The ongoing discussion about this seems to be in issue #5651 on GitHub. There doesn't seem to be much Joplin developers themselves can do until the upstream Electron bug is resolved, which as Laurent has noted, is currently a low priority for Electron devs.

The workaround is to export to PDF and print that using your OS's PDF viewer. You can either right-click on the note and choose ExportPDF, or use Shift+Ctrl+P (Shift++P on a Mac) and search for "pdf" to achieve this.

If your printer is physically attached, or possibly connected over Bluetooth, it appears you can work around the crash by momentarily disconnecting your network, e.g., disabling wifi.

Re your post on #5651

Still an issue in 3.1.22 (AppImage on Ubuntu 20.04-based Linux)...

This has not been a problem for me for some time with either of my Linux machines. I am not having any issue with 3.1.22 printing to a network printer, however I am using the AppImage on an Ubuntu 24.04-based Linux as well as a Debian 12.7-based Linux.

I realise that Ubuntu 20.04 LTS still has a few months before it goes EOL, but it seems that the problem may be a combination of Electron and the OS. Therefore we now have another possible work-around which is to use a more recent OS version if that is an option.
