Desktop: Joplin 2.8.8 I have just downloaded Joplin and want to use it on Windows 10 and Android. Synchonizing is proving puzzlingly difficult. I was told to do this:
In the desktop application or mobile application, select "Dropbox" as the synchronisation target in the Configuration screen (it is selected by default). Then, to initiate the synchronisation process, click on the "Synchronise" button in the sidebar and follow the instructions.
I did this, and apparently got Dropbox authorization of some kind.
Then to get the android side working, I got much the same instructions:
"Select "Dropbox" as the synchronisation target in the config screen the Configuration screen. Then, to initiate the synchronisation process, click on the "Synchronise" button in the sidebar and follow the instructions."]
However this does not work. One can select "Dropbox" in the Configuration screen byt moving to the sidebar to click the "Synchonise" button de-selects "Dropbox".
So there seems no way to set up synchonisation on android mobile, or if there is a way, there is no real explanation.
Be sure to click the save button after changing the setting (if you aren't doing this already!)
If you've been doing this, it might be a bug. If you can get the OneDrive login page to show up on Android but not
Dropbox, there's likely an issue with Dropbox sync.
I discovered the save button, in fact. Never seen one of those!
But sync is still problematic. Last night I got a message on the mobile: "To allow Joplin to synchonise with Dropbox, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Open this url in your browser... (etc)
Step2 Enter the code provided by Dropbox:
Enter code here."
But entering the url I was given in my browser produced this:
It seems the app you were using submitted a bad request. If you would like to report this error to the app's developer, include the information below.
More details for developers
(shall I send you the code? Is this confidential?
Ah, I see. When it said "open this url in your browser" it didn't actully mean my desktop browser (the normal meaning of browser) it meant open it in my mobile. And now sync works!
I do think the developer needs to get a group of IT ignoramuses to do some UX debugging. I am quite worried by this initial encounter with Joplin. If it were not for your kind help I would not have got sync working, which is the absolute first step in use....
