What issue do you have?
Good day! Your insights / step-by-step instructions / info all welcome! Two urgent questions and a request for recommendations.
Intro: Joplin's choice not to spy on people is laudable. the program seems to offer a fair amount of functionality to users with diverse needs.
i have thus far developed a small library using the android app and would like to begin revising it on my laptop (windows). but how?
Issue 1: the uploaded picture shows the program just before my writing this message. this happened upon opening it. [yesterday it had the editor and markdown panels open; i had installed several plugins, and this is the first start post-restart for the plugins to take effect, but ...?). this is after ~30 mins of creative efforts to reign in all the junk over-occurring and -whelming. I disabled the plugins downloaded yesterday and, despite exhaustive searching, did pretty much nothing else. lots of ineffectual mouse clicks.
What is wrong? is it fixable?
I closed the program after taking the picture and, while writing on the next issue (below), sought to open it to capture a second picture (of sync configuration). the program wouldn't open. task manager reported 18 joplin processes. i closed them and tried to re-open -- nothing but the production of 23 joplin processes.
Issue II: my best effort linking the two devices, one windows & the other android, using Tesorit. Good in theory? Recommend something else? Is there an alternate set-up of comparable or greater simplicity that is also less likely to go wrong? the configuration needs to be free for this non-developer with little else but a phone, laptop, ideas, and love?
If the joplin - tesorit - joplin is as good as any other, what are the configurations that are ideal in both programs? i tried and tried variations on this (thanks for nothing, meta-llama) but don't know if the final entries would/will work.
Conclusion: i anticipate someone thinking a reinstallation is prudent. i'm willing ... if there a way to be confident Joplin won't fail again? i've put enormous resevoirs of time into this when extremely important deadlines loom. if it's likely to fail again, i'd prefer an alternate. i'd prefer a dream set up (see below), but if i have to i guess i could cut and paste everything into ... onenote. please help!
just FYI / TMI, my relevant history: Liked OneNote but had to leave upon learning the depths of MS's depravity. Searching, i found Obsidian. Many problems for ~16 months. I need to move on from it and the last three months of efforts have been very unproductive. It's sad to have ideas and commitments and put all one's energies into software that doesn't end up working. (Most notably, this list includes Zettel. Boo!)
i am very interested in migrating from Obsidian to a system that helps me organize vast amounts of information from now to ever on a wide range of subjects, and innumerable projects of various complexities. multi-disciplinary, many co-occurring. Mostly text; lots of different kinds. One functional issue with Obsidian was not ever finding straightforward ways to develop tables of contents, outlines, or any other semblance of organization; even the headings and such were a mess. (there's a second huge problem necessitating the change, but it's not germane here -- i just mean to say that the textual trouble isn't the only reason.)
Utopia would provide an elegant and intuitive program that requires very little maintenance and plugin-type experimentation. All too costly and distracting. Utopia would not ask me to devote myself to becoming a new person, as the org-[something] (emac) program demands. Siyuan also has too much beyond me going on.
A good fraction of utopia is present with Trillium (amazing! lovely!) but ... it doesn't offer Android. sadly i cannot see a way of succeeding without using both devices. (and i've tried.)
Respectfully, i ask for alternatives to Joplin consistent with a user as odd as this one. Free (for now) is also unavoidable; various forces and phenomena have led to a serious hole that takes a lot of effort not to precipt while mountaineering back up to base.
I would appreciate assistance with any and all, and will take it seriously. A few moments of your time sharing what you know could really help out.
Thank you!
