The Week 10 Coding Phase report from August 2022 includes this:
- Added the unit tests for the function that extracts folders and tags from the email subject.
However, that functionality still doesn't exist, as far as I can tell. Is that the case? If so, is it ever going to? I really miss being able to archive stuff by including metadata like that in the subject line of an email, like in Evernote. I find myself having to manually triage thousands of notes that have ended up in my Joplin inbox as a result of some an automated document pipeline, and being able to include a @folder and #tag in the email subject line would save me several hours a week.
Thanks for that, but it's a very weird solution. Rather than parsing the subject of notes that are sent to the "Email to note" address and which are in the Joplin Inbox, it requires logging in to an account, which it then monitors in real time. This seems back-to-front to me, and a lot more complicated than the obvious solution, both as an implementation and from the user's perspective.
I had hopes that the functionality reported in that Week 10 Coding Phase from two years ago would have materialised. Is that definitely not the case?
Cheers,
fort
[UPDATE: I just tested the plugin and it doesn't work with either configuration (fetching and monitoring emails sent from an address or emails located in a specific mailbox). With both methods, the @ and # tags remain in the subject line and, with the latter method, the note you sent ends up in whichever notebook you selected in the plugin settings.]
[UPDATE 2: Deleted and reinstalled the plugin, and it's working as it's supposed to. Still, it all feels very back-to-front.]
