Escape key not exiting tag view dialog

I suggest enabling the Escape key to close the tag input dialog. Could you please add it to Github? Thanks! :slight_smile:

Current behavior

  • User opens tag dialog

  • Adds, edits, or removes tags (or decides not to)

  • If no changes are made, the only way to exit is clicking “Cancel”

Issue

  • Keyboard workflow is interrupted

  • No quick way to dismiss the dialog without using the mouse

Expected behavior

  • Pressing Esc should close the dialog (equivalent to “Cancel” when no changes are made)

Rationale

  • Consistent with common UI patterns

  • Improves keyboard-driven workflows and efficiency

Is the issue on desktop or mobile?

Sorry for not stating this.

I have not tested the mobile apps [where keyboard access is painfully missing from my experience using Joplin with iOS and iPadOS with bluetooth-connected Magic Keyboard).

System tested

  • macOS Tahoe 26.4.1

(Do you think it would be okay to amplify the missing keyboard support in mobile devices as a separate post or on Github?)

Thanks for clarifying.

I’m not sure why keyboard support does not work for you on iOS, as it should work. Keyboard support works very well on the Android app when I’ve tested it
