I’m using Joplin quite a lot for my personal notes, but I’m not allowed to use it for taking notes for work. And due to security precautions taken I cannot use Joplin on my computer at work to have my private notes at hand.
Nevertheless, I tend to take some notes during working, because things are just coming on my mind and I want to put it down so I won’t forget it.
For this purpose I like to use a Markdown editor at work, where I can create my notes and put that Markdown note(s) into an email to copy them into Joplin at home. Using Joplin on my mobile device is no option here because I need to type notes in a speedy way which is impossible on a mobile.
So I like to ask you here which editor - online or on premise - would recommend? Which one is creating a Markdown text body that is as close as possible to the Markdown used by Joplin to make the copy&paste into Joplin really smooth?
Any thoughts and experiences shared are welcome! Thanks in advance!
If you actually want the markdown to be rendered while you’re typing and not just viewing in plain text, Obsidian could be a good option? Also if its only sync that you’re not allowed to use on your work computer, you could just use Joplin on your work computer without sync? Then just email the md source to yourself as and when required.
Or if there is a specific sync service you already use for backing up work files (eg. iCloud) you can set up file system sync to point to the directory which will be synced. FYI file system sync even works with the web app, if installing additional software is not allowed.
Thx @mrjo118 for your input! I should habe mentioned that neither installing the Joplin application nor using a cloud service (I can’t access it from home if it’s a company driven service) will work. The security standards are quite strict. But using an online editor will work as long as the site is not blacklisted. And I won‘t add sensitive or work eelated information in any editor.
That looks great!! I can access the site and it’s simply Joplin! While I am not using Joplin cloud I was not aware of this option. But for my need, it looks like a solution - thanks a lot for that quick hint @mrjo118 !!!
Wow, this is so neat, I had no idea that Joplin Cloud offered a web editor. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to like my master password for decrypting, but that’s another topic for another thread.
Same here. Not mixing personal and professional data (why would I?). And forced to use OneNote and Confluence at work - it’s just like it is and I can’t change it.
So my very simple problem was to keep my thoughts related to private issues while I’m working. After a few days using Joplin Web App now, it seems to work for me as long as I’m transferring my notes at the end of a working day into an email to myself. Not perfect, but given the restrictions on my environment at work it seems to be the best I can achieve at the moment.
Nice on using Joplin Cloud! I’m so paranoid with work, I don’t even personally browse the Internet - I assume my employer is watching my Internet traffic.
For personal notes during the work day, I’ll use Joplin on my phone, although writing more than a couple sentences does get tedious. I usually have a Pocketmod (origami kind of folded paper into panels or a booklet) or 8x11” paper folded in half for doodles and quick written notes.
I use Typora on Windows and Markor on my Android Ereader that is too weak to handle Joplin. On the Ereader, I use SyncThing to sync with my desktop and then copy into Joplin. I think I started using Typora long ago before I knew I could double click on a note to open it in a new Window so I could have multiple notes open simultaneously on different screens.
