Did you try with the Code Mirror editor (in Config => Notes options)?

No, I didn’t use Code Mirror. I’ve made a rough test now with the Code Mirror and also with the WYSIWYG editor, the behavior is different to the “standard” editor, the file is placed by drag’n’drop to the wanted position (in my tests alwasy creating a new line!?!)

I’m having the same problem. Whenever I drag and drop an image into Joplin, it always appears at the top of the current note, not at the cursor position. I use a lot of images / screenshots in my notes, so this slows things down quite a bit.
