Hi. So I have Joplin on my PC which syncs with my iPhone. I use OneDrive for backup. I had to take my PC to the shop, so I took out a MacBook I also own and got it set up to use instead. I installed Joplin on it and got it synchronized with my sync target. I awoke to a OneDrive email that said "Many files were deleted from your OneDrive" and I was like, "Uh oh." I went to look at my Joplin and it says I have 168 notes. I'm pretty sure before, it was at least 400 although I'm not positive. I looked in my OneDrive recycle bin on the online app and there are hundreds of Joplin files in the trash. What do I do? I am not especially handy with the software so if you reply with advice, definitely hand-hold me. Thank you for your help!
Edit: I did a JEX backup of what's in there already. Then I pressed "restore" on a couple hundred items in the recycle bin, looks like there are no changes. Probably should not have done that, I'm aware. Figure I would quit there and wait for a reply. Looks like there are thousands of Joplin recycle bin items.
I've just created a guide with information on how to fix synchronisation issue. Please give it a try and let me know if that helps. If something's missing I can complete the guide:
Hi Laurent, thank you so much for the guide and for making the app. I think I expressed myself incorrectly - I sadly don't have a JEX backup for my old, complete set of notes that I had until yesterday until the sync got messed up. I backed up the notes that are currently there just in case, but I don't believe that's all of them. I'm wondering if anything can be done with all the files in the OneDrive recycle bin.
(Also - the backup folder just has the current files because I accidentally backed it up this morning by pressing the wrong button. RIP.)
If all else fails, I think I'll talk to the computer shop that has my PC and tell them to de-sync Joplin, because that computer probably still has all the old notes on it. Should I tell them to mark the synchronization target as "none"?
To be absolutely sure, you should tell them to switch off the internet on the PC before starting Joplin. Or the app might sync before you have time to set the target to "None".
So even in the JoplinBackup folder you don't have anything?
On OneDrive in the App folder what folders are there inside? Do you have more than one folder starting with 'Joplin' or 'Graph' or both?
If you have more than one, it is likely your notes have become split across multiple data folders on OneDrive due to a OneDrive bug (if you upgrade to Joplin 3.3.x in future, there is added protection in the failsafe mechanism to prevent data loss in this scenario).
Should things not work out at the repair shop you could try this:
If you do have a couple of the folders mentioned above, on OneDrive you can download each of those folders. Then on Joplin create 2 new profiles and for each of them, do a file system sync pointing to the folder you downloaded. You will hopefully find your notes split across the 2 files and then you can export them as jex files and combine them in a new profile by importing them. At that point you should delete all the Joplin folders on OneDrive, before syncing to OneDrive using your new 'golden' profile
Hi,
I am having sync issues as well.
i'm using the app on all platofrms where it is available.
Under Windows 11, I keep getting the message, "Some items cannot be synchronized."
I even left it overnight, after recently creating a new profile to clear up some of these issues, but it didn't seem to help.
My notetaker, which runs Android 12, has a serious problem, where both v3.27 which is available in the Play Store as well as v3.3, which is currently in beta, crash when in the midd;e of synchronization. My database contains over 30K items.
Any advice on how best to proceed? My phone & iPad also constantly sync & I'm not sure if that's normal
