Since the search feature searches across all notes in all notebooks, it is, in my opinion, logically placed in the wrong spot in the UI. It should be placed above Notebooks not the list of notes within any given notebook. Where it is placed now implies that it is a notebook search and not a global search, which is not the case. Besides, when the note list is hidden, the search is then also hidden and that even further illustrates this principle. In my opinion, for a positive user experience, there must be a logical hierarchy in a UI (emphasis on "logical"). I don't mean to imply that the design is "stupid" because it is "illogical". Hardly that. I just think this point is worth considering; it could be a slight improvement.
