Replacing laptop from which I initiated notes to share via Dropbox

What issue do you have?

Firstly, I am not very tech savvy, so if possible please consider that in any helpful suggestions.
I've used Joplin quite happily for 18 months with the following setup:

  • Started with laptop A, imported notes from Evernote, and set up an encryption key word
  • Set up a Dropbox account for sharing notes
  • Downloaded Joplin onto laptop B, and gave access to the Dropbox account
  • Downloaded Joplin onto my iPhone, and again gave access to the Dropbox account

All has been well, and syncing seemed to work fine between the 3 devices.

Now I have had to replace laptop A; it still runs, but I am replacing it with laptop C. I've downloaded Joplin onto laptop C and given it access to the Dropbox account. I do not see the notes that are already there.

I am uncertain about how to proceed. Laptop C will replace laptop A, so maybe I need to enter the encryption key on laptop C? (on this laptop I do have a message indicating that "one or more master keys need a password", not quite sure what this means).

I'm wondering whether I need to essentially re-add all of my notes, as I am replacing the computer which was the original owner of the notes. If that were the case I expect I would need to remove Joplin from laptop B, and from my phone, import notes from a Joplin backup into laptop C, re-encrypt by entering the key word, and re-installing onto laptop B and my phone. But I could be completely wrong.

Is anybody able to advise me on how to achieve this change?
