What issue do you have?

This is not (yet) an issue. I want to know the effect of replacing a resource file.

I had attached a PDF to a note. I found the associated resource in the resources directory. I replaced the file with another PDF. Opening the original reference in the note opens the new file.

  • The .crypted file is unaffected. So other devices will not get the replacement?
  • How can I make Joplin recreate the related .crypted?

Correct. Joplin is not aware of the edit / replacement and it will not get synced. So you will see the replacement in the client on the machine where you made the change but nowhere else.

Replace an attached file by adding the new file to the note and deleting the old one from the note. Joplin is then aware of the change and will then sync it to all clients.

I can confirm a workaround is to open the attachment through Joplin, making Joplin watch for changes to the file while the note is being edited. Making a trivial edit to the attachment then saving makes Joplin recreate the .crypted using the new attachment.

Just another option, if avoiding attachment of a new file is preferred.

Good point! For some strange reason I just assumed that it was an attachment that could not be editied!
