Hi,
This seems ridiculous! But I cannot find an option to rename a single note, residing in a sub-notebook. There is nothing on the 'Note' menu or on the right-click-accessed task menu for a Note.
I can rename a notebook (or sub-notebook) by holding the Shift key down and select notebook (or sub-notebook) .. then right clicking and choose 'Edit' on the task menu. But no such option is present for a 'Note'. Am I missing something? Or do I need to install a plugin to rename even a single Note? (I saw a post about a plugin but that referred to renaming multiple Notes)
You need to click on the title itself and you can edit it there. Is that what you mean?
Oh Jeepers!!!
Thx for prompt response.
Maybe this is new ... I'm pretty sure I did this a couple of times in the past by just changing the text at the top of the edit panel .. i.e.the first line which becomes the title at Note creation time
Glad that sorted out! We try to keep the UI reasonably intuitive so it's interesting that one of the most important features is not always immediately obvious. Maybe something we need to consider here
You are not wrong. This is possible, as you saw, at creation time. When a note is initially being created the first line of the note text is used as a title if no title has been entered. If you edit the first line you also edit the title. When you click away from the new note to another note the title of the new note becomes "fixed". From that point on if you return to the new note and edit the first line it will not affect the title and title edits can only be accomplished in the title field itself.
To give you some user feedback ... I just checked again to see how I missed this.
I was pretty sure it HAD to be possible .. although I was thrown off by the forum search which mentioned the plugin to perform multiple renames.
But below is my 2 cents on the issues which caused my brain-freeze.
- My "legacy memory" .. of how I (possibly) used to change it in the actual Note itself.
- At creation time the characters one types in on the first line are indeed visible in the (editable) Note name field at above the toolbar. They are duplicated in bold as you type, so an intuitive "warning" here. But creation time is the only time you are alerted to this. I was reorganizing old Notes and as stated I simply didn't click (or even observe) this "title bar" note name up above the toolbar.
- It is not immediately apparent that the field with the Note name at the top of the right panel IS editable. It is bold with a white background and one can assume it is just a standard (internal) "title bar"
