Notion-style (and Coda-style) databases?

I recently swooned over the database backend of Joplin. I love databases. I think custom databases is the killer feature of apps like Notion and Coda. Has any thought been given to supporting that feature in Joplin? I'd love to see it in Joplin. Notion has almost everything I want, except that I don't control the copies of my data, it's not pluggable, and it's on a subscription model.

I recently read this article that goes through Notion's architecture. The data model behind Notion's flexibility Seems like the plugin system is starting to have these custom "blocks", i.e. the note overview plugin and it seems very useful.
