Just unstalled the new version and noted that new notes always start indented in the markdown-editor-view (s. screenshot).

Yes it actually does; thank you. I must admit I rarely read the news and just suppose things will be better in the newer version than they are now; perhaps I should change this 
I'll have to play around with this to see how to make best use of it.

I think most people are this way with most software updates. But Joplin is relatively young and the development is fairly dynamic. So it's probably a good idea to read carefully.
