New icon for Joplin!

I think you didn’t see it correctly. The outer part has a different color than the inner part and the red line only goes to the outer part.

So it’s:

j1

vs

j2

Crikey, I had to colour sample the graphic to confirm the difference in the shade! Told you my eyes were no good!

Anyway, I've had enough of icons, I'll take whatever I'm given...

I like D because it keeps a serif feel from the current logo (with the slanted top). I’m so tired of boring squarish sans logotypes.

Am I understanding this correctly? is the new logo supposed to be a stylized J/paper in a rounded corner square? or is the new logo supposed to be square, with a rounded cornered square inside with a stylized J inside that?

@Anon and others have already said it better than I could, but I just want to put another vote in for the current logo. The “J on a blue background” is easily recognizable and I can pick it out from the list of apps on my phone or desktop.

Out of the new icons, I honestly don’t see the connection. Sure they look nice, but I wouldn’t know what it was supposed to be if I hadn’t seen this thread first.

Personally I like all of the icons proposed originally by Laurent, they are distinctive and look good.

One icon I hate is the black J icon that proceeds each resource attachment. What is the purpose of it?

Would it be possible to change these to reflect the actual type of document that is attached. For example a pdf file would display the adobe acrobat pdf icon? At least this gives the user a visual cue as to what the link represents.

It shows that the link points to a local document/resource.

I certainly want an indicator like that. It doesn't have to be this partiular icon, but something that shows me that it is a local link.

I like this one, I find boring the icons with just a plain letter.
Personally I prefer the red background, like in the E proposal.

For me, B, C, G, or H.

I’m going to buck trend and promote my favorite: A (followed closely by C)

Why?

  1. It’s simple, and will be clear at many resolutions.
  2. It’ll recolor well, including gray scale.
  3. It has three elements that, to me, stand out more clearly than in any of the others:
    1. The “J”
    2. The curled paper
    3. The right negative space looks like a stylized musical note (specifically an eighth note)

With that said, I do like the inherent old-fashioned-ness of the current “J”, especially since the app is inspired by Scott Joplin.

For me, if the logo really has to be changed, it's either G or D.
Gotten so used to the logo since I use the app everyday – so, maybe biased as many of us.

Anyway, option G would nicely complement the Nextcloud logo which I also see every day

There are a lot of blue icons out there for mobile devices, and frankly i often unintentionally select the wrong one because there are so many.

But I can’t say I ever have selected the wrong blue icon currently used for Joplin!

After reading the thread, my first choice for a change was G, though aspects of the current log still suits well. But, tessus has a nice design. For me, keep with the current gradient blues - steel gray. On the new icon, loose the real light blue that surrounds the icon, however

The blue used inside of the program needs to lighten, perhaps match that of the current icon using the same gradient blue. I’ve always found the darker blue in the main part of the program too dark or strong.

Thanks.

Icon 2 is the most modern-looking and neatly incorporates the basic idea: A note in the shape of a J

It's not my design, but somebody else's. It came up in the github issue a long time ago and I thought I shoud also post it here, because I like it the best.

The light blue (which is actually turquoise) that surrounds the icon is the background. It is not part of the icon.

that make me think about https://duckduckgo.com/?q=tui+logo&t=ffsb&iax=images&ia=images

Has anybody else noticed that Joplin becomes unpinned from the Windows (10) Task Bar after every update, and has to be repinned to keep it there? (And repositioned if you don’t want it at the end of the pinned items.) This is unlike pretty much every other app. I typically keep 25+ apps pinned to my taskbar (icons only, no text) and Joplin is the only one I remember acting this way. Would be nice if the pin could survive an update.

How about a paperclip reversed? It does look like “J”, also if you look hard enough it is similar to to elephant’s trunk that is trying to suck text in. (lol)

Also, if you complete the paperclip, you can see “@”
