Move subnotebook to top level

Hey there, I’m using Joplin 1.0.179 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Is there a way to move a subnotebook to the top level in the GUI? I’m having trouble finding it if so.

You can just drag and drop notebooks to change the hierarchy. If you grab the subnotebook and drop it on this part

it’ll move to the top level

Hi, is there a way to do this in with the android app?

I agree with @gozzilla78 that this is unintuitive. I tried a lot of unsuccessful drag and dropping, and then had to come to this forum to look for help.

I would recommend making this entire green area a valid place to drop a notebook to move it to the top level:

Most useful would be to have a live indication (kind of a "preview") of where the drag&drop would land. Most of the times it's a thick bar or a ghost of the dragged item.

At present the drag and drop is blind and the cursor shape gives no information to the user

With ordered notes, dragging a note shows a thick bar where it will land in between notes.

With nested notebooks, I'd expect dragging a notebook to show a thick border around the other notebook it will land into.

I'd think dragging a notebook to Notebooks - and ideally All notes as @narF suggests above - would show a thick bar under the topmost All Notes list item. Unlike the border, the bar would show the notebook landing between other top level notebooks as expected.

A ghost of the dragged item could work too.

As for other note or notebook list suggestions:

  • Having lists scroll when dragging an item beyond visible list items would be convenient.
  • Context menu items to move items up, down, and to the top level could also address accessibility criteria, such as Dragging Movements.

I've opened a related pull request.
