Many thanks for this Marph. Pleased it wasn't just me!

I've just manually installed your fixed version and it's now working - many thanks!

The fix is now available officially in the add-on store as version 0.0.8.

Hi I'm new to this plugin and was just wondering why "text LF LF text" gets converted to "text LF LF SP SP LF LF text" so all the lines of text get spaced out with 2 extra lines?

Hi, I can't reproduce. Left is Thunderbird, right is Joplin. (It would make sense to replace the <br/> with a proper newline, though.)

Can you provide an example? Also might be relevant:

  • OS (I tested on Ubuntu)
  • Is it a plain text or an HTML mail?
  • Did you export by the button on top or the right click context menu?

In general, the text is taken from Thunderbird's API and forwarded to Joplin (almost) unmodified.

Hi, thanks for getting back so quickly.

I don't know how to add pics like you did.

So:

screenshot.238 - plain text email screenshot from Thunderbird
screenshot.239 - text copied from Thunderbird, pasted into Notepad++ with show all characters
screenshot.240 - as it appears in Joplin Markdown editor window with the extra blank lines
screenshot.241 - text copied from Joplin, pasted into Notepad++ showing the extra LFs and spaces shown as red dots

OS Windows 10 Home 22H2
Thunderbird 128.4.3esr (64-bit)
Joplin Portable 3.1.24 (prod,win32)
Joplin Export emails 0.0.8

I exported by the button in T'bird's top bar to the right of the search field

Best regards, Roger

Thanks for the example. I configured my Thunderbird to use "Body Text" by default. When switching back to "Paragraph" and adding some line breaks it's reproducible.

I added an issue on Github.

Not finding a mention in this thread, I’m wondering if an existing user can share whether this Thunderbird extension can export a single email or multiple selected emails as an .eml file to Joplin.

It's not possible using this extension.

However, I was able to simply drag-and-drop an email from Thunderbird to Joplin (on Linux). It is attached as .eml in Joplin. This worked for a single email and multiple mails, too.

Excellent.

Thanks for sharing.

That flow is perfectly acceptable.

The Joplin export extension for Thunderbird Is supposed to be able to export one or more emails At once I have it set up I will test it later on. I can't recall The last time I actually used it.
