Joplin Clipper Plus - a Readability-based Chrome web clipper (mainly for Korean websites)

Hi all,

I made an alternative web clipper extension for Chrome that talks to the same Joplin Web Clipper service (the local API on port 41184), and I'd like to share it in case it's useful to someone.

Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/joplin-clipper-plus/fbieoidncnoalmenkkpbcbomppoenfoa
Source (MIT): GitHub - iamtalker/joplin-clipper-plus · GitHub

Disclosure: most of the code was written with the help of an AI coding assistant (Claude). I've tested it by hand on real sites, but please treat it as a hobby project.

Important: this is mainly for Korean websites. The site-specific cleanup rules were written for Korean community boards and news sites (DCinside, Clien, Naver blog, Namuwiki, Daum, Chosun, Khan, etc.), and the documentation is in Korean. It works on any page through Readability, but the extra cleanups only help on the Korean sites listed in the source. If you don't read Korean sites, the official clipper is probably all you need.

What it does

  • Article: extracts the main text with Mozilla Readability and saves it as Markdown (no ads/sidebars)
  • Full Page: saves a script-free HTML snapshot
  • Selection: save only what you select; a small floating toolbar lets you pick the mode first, then select, then Save
  • Bookmark: link + description only
  • Webtoon: saves the big images of a post in order (for long vertical comics)
  • Notebook picker, tags, editable title; you can also set a default clip mode and notebook so one click on the icon is enough
  • Embedded YouTube videos are converted to a form Joplin auto-embeds; self-hosted video files are kept as playable tags
  • Images are inlined (downscaled, re-encoded to JPEG) so notes don't depend on the original site

Differences from the official clipper

  • Per-site cleanup rules for sites where Readability picks the wrong block (many are Korean community/news sites, since that's what I use), plus some generic cleanup for unknown sites
  • Markdown tables from wiki infoboxes are kept intact

Setup

  1. Joplin: Tools > Options > Web Clipper > enable the service, copy the authorization token
  2. Install the extension, open its options, enter the port and token, and press "Test connection"

Permissions / privacy

Known limitations

  • Chrome/Edge only (Manifest V3)
  • Some sites need a hand-written content selector; if a site clips badly, please tell me the URL
  • The Joplin desktop app must be running

Feedback and bug reports (with a URL) are very welcome. Thanks!
