Except the latest release is 3.6.15.
What is this insanity? Why are you breaking my note syncing until some random time in the future you will release a new version? This is shit man, why are you doing this? I have all my notes in this app..
This is true. The latest release version is 3.6.15. However at some point you have installed a pre-release client and it has updated the sync system and so all clients now have to be v3.7.x.

Joplin v3.7 is slated to be published as a release version around the first week of September.
I do not think that is the problem. I have not downloaded 3.7.X it is prompting me to download this version in order to synchronize. Current version is:

No. This is on Ubuntu 26.04. I did download on my mobile using F Droid but the update message is on both desktop and mobile.

What happens if that the sync target format has changed - so when the F-Droid version synced, it updated the sync target. And now, only 3.7 clients can sync with it, which means all other clients including the desktop ones need to be updated.

same problem here, I have joplin (3.7.2) on my phone via f-droid and on debian via flatpak (3.6.14) and can no longer synchronize on Debian.
What is the recommanded solution ? Install a temporary pre-release version

This was my problem. What a pain. Options? Is it possible to back-up a version on android? Will that fix it?
No. The pre-release sent out by F-Droid has updated the data files on the sync target (i.e. the server you use to sync your notes). That means that from now on only 3.7 clients can read that data on the server.
If whoever provides the Flatpak version only provides full release versions there is not due to be a full 3.7 release until early September.
I do not use the Flatpak version but if it stores your Joplin data at ~/.config/joplin-desktop could you use the official AppImage instead? This is normally installed using the script as shown at https://joplinapp.org, however in order to get it to download the latest pre-release you have to append some extra instructions:

I also encountered the same issue. As I use Fedora Kinoite (Silverblue, immutable distro), running AppImages is quite cumbersome. But I found a way to do so by installing Gear Level (an AppImage management tool) as flatpak and then running Joplin with the --appimage-extract-and-run flag. So for now, I have a workaround.
I never downloaded any prerelease but I do use fdroid for android/mobile so that was the issue for me. I installed the prerelease and that fixed it. Thanks. Will I go back to the normal release schedule automatically when 3.7 is released or do i have to manually switch back at some point?

. I'm using F-Droid and was on 3.7.2. So I updated the desktop app to 3.7.9 (pre-release) on macOS. But now, I have this issue on the desktop app when I try to synchronise the notes on my NextCloud server: Protocol "https:" not supported. Expected "http:" (Code ERR_INVALID_PROTOCOL). So strange. I don't have the issue on Android. Any idea?
Could be a bug where you need to set it again and then restart Joplin completely. If you have it in the taskbar then you need to make sure it's completely closed/quit.
Thanks, problem solved. I don't know why, but after updating to 3.7.9 on macOS, a space character was added before my server link. The result was " https:..." instead of "https:...". It was hard to detect it . But now it works.

Hello, thank you for the information but I don't see 3.7.0+, the first to come above the current version is Release v3.7.3 · laurent22/joplin · GitHub . So, must we use this one before the next release ? Won't it crash when we downgrade with the release in August ?
If you see something like "3.7.0+" it would normally mean the most recent release of the 3.7 version (i.e. v3.7.0 or above). It is also sometimes written as "v3.7.x".
Only if you are getting the error message telling you that you have to use a v3.7 client because the data on your sync target has been updated.
Today the most recent v3.7 pre-release would be v3.7.9 (see here).
When Joplin 3.7 reaches a full release in early September it will not be a "downgrade" it will be an upgrade as the version will be greater than v3.7.9. For example in April 2026 v3.6.10 was a pre-release. The next version was a full release version and that was numbered v3.6.11.
