If I switch the active note to a different one while I am still editing a PDF externally, what does

Joplin 2.3.5 (prod, win32)

I have a bunch of PDFs loaded into Joplin, which i would like to use with my PDF software (Foxit) that can perform OCR on them. Foxit allows users to select a folder path containing PDF and automatically OCR them one by one so that you don't have load up each one. This would entail working with the files directly from the file system, but I can't tell the right approach for this given the warning that Joplin gives, "The attachments will no longer be watched when you switch to a different note", when i open a PDF from Joplin and edit it externally.

If I switch the active note to a different one while I am still editing a PDF externally, what does it mean that Joplin is no longer 'watching it for changes'? Does this just mean it won't render the edits within the native PDF viewer? Or are the changes not being retained? Presumably there should be a version of the file that can be loaded directly from the file system without loading it from Joplin, but what impact would this have in terms of Joplin never 'watching for changes'?
