What issue do you have?
I can open a .md file in Joplin, on Windows, by left-clicking on it.
How can I close a file, other than by File > Quit, which closes all notes?
I saw a forum topic from 2023 in which a user claimed that Joplin can only open one note at a time, but this is incorrect.
Joplin "opens" a note when you focus on it. Whenever the note is not in focus (i.e. not displayed) it can be assumed to be closed. If you want to make sure that none of the notes are open, simply close all separate Joplin windows and focus on an empty notebook.
I think you are missing the point of Joplin. It is not for opening a single .md file. I'd use Typora if that is what you want. Joplin is for managing thousands of .md files. What you are asking is a bit like saying that you have a single check record, and you want your accounting program to open and close that check. If you manage to import the check, then it will reside with hundreds or thousands of other checks in your accounting database.
If you opened the .md file in notepad or some other text editor, then you could paste that into an empty Joplin note, perhaps inside a folder. Then you might work on it. Later, you could export that single note as a .md file, or a pdf, or html.
