Encryption + sync works only partially

I have a setup with a Windows 10 x84 and an Android device (Huawei P30 Pro).

I first installed Joplin on Windows, enabled encryption and sync to my Nextcloud.
After the sync was complete, I installed Joplin on Android, setup synchronisation settings and entered my master password in order to see the encrypted messages.

That all worked out great. I can see all my encrypted notes from the computer on my phone. When I add new encrypted notes on my computer, they appear on the phone as well.

The other direction sadly doesn’t work. If I enter a new notebook or a new note in an existing notebook on my phone, it will sync to the computer as well, but my computer tells me that this is encrypted and won’t show the content.

Do you have any idea what I can do so that taking notes on both devices is possible and the notes can be seen on both as well?

hi and welcome on board

from the Joplin Desktop, can you go to “Tools > sync status” and press on “export debug report” and provide us the result ?

I don’t know what @laurent will think of that but I found strange that there is no master key at all🤪

Yes the master key is gone so it can’t work. Since Joplin never deletes any master key something else happened. You might need to restore from a previous backup.

Ok, I just realized that notes from my computer are not synced any longer. If I enter something on the computer, it states “Remote Object created” and “sync completed”, but mynextcloud tells me that there were no changes in the joplin folder. If I do the same on my phone, all works fine.

Now I just closed Joplin, deleted ~/.config/joplin… config folder, reopened and setup the sync again. => I was asked on my desktop for the master password and everything synced fine. So it seems to be working now.

:+1: nice
