Desktop app: Opening/editing multiple notes

Joplin fairly recently implemented a multi window feature on the desktop app. You can effectively double click a note and it will open in a new window, then you could resize both windows and put them side by side

That seems like it would work for me! However when I doubleclick on a note now, nothing happens. Am I misunderstanding, or do I need to do something else for this to work?

Are you using the latest version of Joplin? You'll need version 3.2.1 or later.

Also you could try right clicking a note in the list, and there should be an edit in new window option, providing you are on the minimum required version. There is a video demonstrating it here: Desktop: Multiple window support by personalizedrefrigerator ¡ Pull Request #11181 ¡ laurent22/joplin ¡ GitHub

Indeed! I needed to get the latest pre-release version from here. Now I see what you are describing and I can open a note in a new window.

I would still prefer to have a second editor pane in the main program than a separate window, but I can use the Windows window manager to arrange them (and I can open more than two if necessary).

Thanks for the tip!

Still very much enjoying using notes in separate windows - thanks so much again @personalizedrefriger

I was wondering if this could be taken a step further on Windows by adding a "New note" and/or even better “New note in new window” option in the Joplin taskbar “jump list”? Windows jump list actions/shortcuts are the actions seen on right click or drag up on the app’s icon on the taskbar.

This would make it super fast to quickly create a new note from the taskbar while you’re working in Windows without having to move over to working within Joplin (I’m guessing this might work similarly on other OSs). So, you could get writing and jotting down notes very quickly without disrupting or losing your place in Joplin. You could also add other handy standard shortcuts like recent notes, which could then launch in their own separate window. This would be great for productivity and would be very useful.

I wonder if this is possible whether such features are available within the Electron framework?

Thanks
Ben
