What issue do you have?
Good morning,
I'm starting to use Joplin and I'm having trouble deleting a profile. I followed the recommendations in the forum, but it doesn't work. When I delete the profile and profiles.json and then open Joplin, the profile is still there!
I've seen several other people have the same problem, but there doesn't seem to be a solution.
Thank you very much for your help.
How many profiles do you currently have and which do you want to delete? If you want to delete the 'Default' profile, it wont work to follow that guide, because that only deletes any profiles which are not the default.
PS: I'm surprised to find there is still no ui to delete profile on desktop, as the mobile app has this feature
Are you using the --profile flag on your Joplin shortcut, or are you using the multi instance feature of Joplin?
If you are using the --profile flag, then the default profile will exist at the path you have specified, and instead of deleting sub dirs and profiles.json in the ~/.config/joplin-desktop dir, you need to delete them from the specified path. If you are using multi instance (launch secondary instance feature), then the default profile will be created at a different folder next to the joplin-desktop dir. Have a look in the ~/.config/ dir if there is another folder such as joplin-desktop-alt1.
Also be sure to make sure you have closed down Joplin fully before deleting the files, i.e. close it via the tray icon on Windows, or use File > Quit within Joplin.
We're making progress! Closing Joplin with the system tray icon on Windows made a difference.
Now, a problem remains with my two test profiles. So, I deleted profile number 2 as indicated, along with the "profiles.json" file, and the result is that this deleted both profiles in "file/change profile."
Do you have an idea ?
Thank you so much.
Are you saying you want to only delete one of the test profiles?
Do you still have profiles.json in the recycle bin? If so then you should restore the file. It's possible to recreate the file if you already permanently deleted it, but it will take a bit of time to explain it if you're not familiar with code.
If you want to remove just one of the profiles, instead of deleting profiles.json, you need to remove the relevant section from the json file for the profile you want to remove.
Yeah, unfortunately no-one has written a guide for this so far.
I want to thank you so much for your help and the time you spent. I really appreciate it. I'm going to be able to use this program that I just discovered.
