Crashing on Android

Don't forget it also was (and is) on the f-droid repository i mentioned.

174 works for me, however I did not installed it over broken install, I installed it over 143. Maybe that is why mine worked

What was the issue that broke the release.?

@laurent

Also would mind putting apk releases in the release page? It is a bit of awward to find the release apk from the source pages.

Please note that 174 hasn't been officialy released yet. As soon as it will have been, it will be available in the Play Store and the web site will point to the correct apk.

Same issue when updating to 1.0.178.
Please fix it I really need to access my data and I did not backup those data.
Thanks

there is no 1.0.178
the last android version is 1.0.176 and I don’t have any crash with it.
which android version do you use ?

Yes it is on F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid repository (https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index.php ): https://github.com/laurent22/joplin-android/releases

can,'t you rollback to 1.0.176 ?

No it does not allow me to do that. I would need to remove previous version but will loose configuration and also need to reset encryption with my other devices

When you start joplin and own a "cloud" storage, when syncing for the first time, the encryption key should be retrieved. So you don't reset anything between devices.
On the other hands, if you have to remove the previous version, syncing everything from the beginning ...
So, a little bit of patience for the fix

178 is broken and was only available for a short time. @hhdgg17, v177 is available too, could you try it? Another fixed version will be available soon. Also, just out of curiosity, are you using something that auto-update from GitHub?

Thanks for the info, I will wait for the new version in order to update without having to uninstall and reinstall.
About you question, no I simply use IzzyOnDroid repository on fdroid and when I saw a new version I updated

Yes thanks I’ll wait for the newest version.
Is there any time estimation to know when it will be released?

Latest release v179 should work, please give it a try.

Thanks, is it on FDroid already?

Hmm, I checked the IzzyOnDroid link above and the following is shown in the details:

Anti-Features:

  • NonFreeDep : The application depends on a non-free application (e.g. Google Maps) - i.e. it requires it to be installed on the device, but does not include it.
  • Tracking : The application tracks and reports your activity to somewhere either without your consent, or by default (i.e. you’d have to actively disable it). It’s commonly used for when developers obtain crash logs without the user’s consent, or when an app is useless without some kind of authentication.

Not sure why either of these would be true, but this reminded me that all the permissions should be listed and explained.
Unfortunately I can’t compile this list myself, since I don’t know the code well enough. Also, sometimes weird permissions are required for things that don’t seem to have anything to do with them.

I don't manage the F-Droid version and didn't know it was on it until recently. The APK can be downloaded directly from the Joplin website.

That's probably the geo-location tagging, which can be disabled, but is indeed on by default.

Well, but the info is never transmitted to a third party server. It is only written into the meta data section of the note. So the app is not tracking the user.

That's what I meant. This can be very confusing to people. I mean, if I were to read that an app is tracking me, it would raise a red flag for me.

OK thanks, new version solved the issue thanks for your work.

How do you fix an android app that keeps crashing?

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on Apps (App Manager, Manage apps, depending on the Android device)
  3. Find the app that keeps crashing or freezing and tap on it.
  4. Next, tap Clear cache.
  5. Tap Force stop.
  6. Go back to the Home screen and launch the app again.
